Walking with God!

You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess. Deuteronomy 5:33

WALKING WITH GOD

What does walking mean?

From the word walk or walking, we can infer lots of practical things one can do apart from the act of walking.

In the Webster Dictionary 1828, walking is moving on the legs with a slow pace; moving; conducting oneself. It is the act of moving on the feet with a slow pace.

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. Genesis 17:1

In Hebrew, the word halak for a walk is not only a “basic practical term but also has idiomatic implications such as here to mean fellowship with God and a right relationship.” (StudyLight.org)

It is to go, to walk, a manner of life. From it, we can infer that it means to listen to God, to talk to God to obey God and what He is telling us to do or not to do. He is the one that sets order and tells us how to live since He created us, and He knows what is good for us. He tells us to choose life or death.

In Genesis God tells us that after He created the first male and female Adam and Eve, He walked with them.

Genesis 3:8 (NKJV)
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

The Bible is full of scripture, giving examples of men and women of faith who walked with God. This is not just for back then- that, that is what they did, but it is for now for us to walk with Him as well. God calls us to do that with our lives not just on Sunday or when things get bad but as a lifestyle to be the way we live is to walk with God.

Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. 22 After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. Genesis 5:20-25

God is teaching us to walk with Him, it’s a learning process now of how-to and then continue walking with Him which will be forever walking with God in Eternity.

Human Fellowship with God began when the first humans Adam and Eve were created by Jehovah our God. Things fell apart, with Adam and Eve’s sin but God made a way through Jesus so that if we choose, we can continue to walk with Him and have everlasting life and not perish even though we deserve to be separated from Him in hell since we are sinners. No one can atone for His sin only Jesus, God himself can save us and atone for our sins, and He did it for us on the Cross and paid the penalty once and for all.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

There is nothing one can do to earn it or deserve it. We all deserve to be in hell but for the love of God, He came in human flesh and endured the Cross for our salvation, since Jesus our God took the punishment that we deserved. Sin has to be punished and although God is love He cannot allow sin and evil to get away. God is merciful but He is also just, therefore sin must be punished. God tells us that the wages of sin is death and I am not talking about physical death since all people experience that once they depart from the earth but I am talking about the eternal or second death as it is known where one would pay for their sins in hell forever and ever in torment and be separated from God.

Why does God want us to walk with Him?

I really believed and thought that I was a good person, but God has been so merciful to me in showing me the reality of my condition that actually my self-righteousness and my standard of human goodness are like a dirty rag as the Bible says in front of God and I won't be able to stand in front of a Holy and Righteous God or be allowed in eternity with Him thinking that I got myself there by my own merits and goodness.

They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one. Psalm 14:3

I thought like that for years even though I believed in God but until I truly believed that I was a wretched human and evil lurked within me because of my fallen nature and nothing I do of myself would ever be good enough or enough to satisfy God’s wrath against me and my sin. I cannot of myself or any human for that matter create for myself or give myself everlasting life although evil science arrogantly tries to invent and claims that it can give us long or forever life through technology and artificial intelligence and other inventions just like the building of the tower of Babel.

1 John 4:19

We love Him because He first loved us.

The more I started seeking and looking earnestly for God, walking with Him, being so hungry and thirsty for Him- He showed me who I was and that He died for me because He loves me not because I am worthy of it or deserve it or good or religious enough or something in that light but because He simply loves me and doesn’t want me to be separated from Him for eternity and suffer in hell, which by the way God only made for the fallen angels.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Humans were not supposed to go there but in God’s History where He tells us our story of humanity, He shows us that we choose to go there. God does not send anyone to hell as the popular saying. He came and paid the price for everyone who wants to be saved from their sins and fellowship with God forever. We don’t have to perish in hell, God made a way and it's so simple, but humans go there because they simply don’t want to know God, we don’t want to realise and acknowledge Him, we don’t want His forgiveness or salvation and we don’t want to be in Heaven with Him. We humans don’t want to acknowledge that we are sinners and deserve hell because of our sins and God is Love, Holy, Just and Merciful. People go to hell because they choose hell over asking God for forgiveness, repenting and walking with Him.

Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: Matthew 25:41

For years I was deceived by enemy number one satan but also my own heart deceived me, and the Bible tells us that the heart can be deceitful. My own thoughts of goodness and self-righteousness condemned me to hell without Jesus and without being clothed in Jesus’s righteousness.

God tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 that “The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?

How do we walk with Him all day and every day?

Firstly, let me clarify one thing, whether one believes in the One and Only God our Creator, Father God, Lord Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit are irrelevant to the fact that He created us and we will all bow down one day before Him and declare He is God whether we believed in Him on Earth or not. We will all face Him. It will be beyond scary for those who reject Him now and face Him without accepting His salvation while He gave them plenty of chances to get right with Him during their lifetime.

For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.” Romans 14:11

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, Philippians 2:10

Right now we live and have our being in him and from Him, He is the one who gives us our human instincts to know right from wrong and whether to choose to do right or wrong. Our instincts are not from our own selves they are not that we are all just born like that no they come from God whether we realise it or not.

for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ Acts 17:28

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Colossians 1:16-18

God’s word is the Bible and in John. It says Jesus is the WORD of God and He is God.

So, when we read God’s word, we are also fellowshipping with Him and walking with Him, His word transforms our hearts by reading, listening and hearing His word, we are engaging in reflections as if seeing in the mirror the real us, the condition of our soul and seeing things that are on us which without a mirror one would be ignorant or not have seen or be aware of or in denial and we need the truth that sets us free as God tells us.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:1-5

Why do we like looking in the mirror apart from vanity, it is to make sure that before we go out or something like that there is nothing smudged on our face and that our clothes are ok nothing is ripped or dirty so generally, we look ok, it is to check how we look so we are not naked or embarrassed in front of others.

Well, the Bible is God’s word to us humans, our guide to life to our beginning and the end of this earthly age before Jesus comes back again. It is our mirror and it shows us how far we have fallen from a Holy God, our fallen natures with which we are born automatically because of the Fall of the first human beings Adam and Eve, and it shows the darkness that is in us, it shows us that we are all sinners and the amazing hope we have which is that God is the only one to save us from this darkness in us and sin and the utter human tragedy that leads us to eternal damnation and instead of that darkness and suffering we can have everlasting life. What an amazing free gift God gives to those who want it.

We, humans, make so many complications and always looking to have formulas and equations we almost can't accept something so beautiful and simple, but God has given us a simple message of love, repentance, mercy, salvation, righteousness and everlasting life with Him.

We study and search the scriptures and talk to God every day for everything, bring it before Him daily, pray and fellowship with Him, praising Him and worshipping Him for Who He is, for What He has done and continues to do, for the fact that He never leaves us or forsakes us and that He saves us and gives us everlasting life.

There is so much to talk about walking with God. I am excited about this adventure with you all and sharing the Gospel of Christ with the world as we embark on this journey of growing together in the LORD and encouraging each other with His Word in His Presence that is always with us.
