"My One need is Humility" Andrew Murray
Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant. Matthew 20:26
WALKING WITH GOD

The Lord Jesus was the Only perfect example of Humility. God, the Lord Jesus, humbled himself in heaven to become a man, Murray explains.
God Almighty, who created everything and the universe, put on flesh and came to His own creation dressed as the humans He created to save them from sin, darkness and misery and His wrath and judgement against sin.
He lived as a human being and gave up His life to save us on the cross. His whole existence is one of humility; hence, Our Father in heaven wants His children to copy His behaviour in being humble and loving others.
“Jesus Christ took the place and fulfilled the destiny of man as a creature by His life of perfect humility. His humility became our salvation. His salvation is our humility.” Andrew Murray
God is Love but a Righteous Judge, He is Wisdom, He is humble, yet Fearsome, Awesome and Majestic at the same time.
As I am writing now on my balcony enjoying a lovely hot sunny day, although the sun has not reached my balcony yet, I can afford to enjoy writing in the outdoors for maybe another few hours or so, and then it will become very hot at 30 °C. I am reflecting on God’s goodness to me and the human race as a whole.
I am reading, among many other books, Andrew Murray’s book on Humility. I cannot recommend it enough. The Lord has given Andrew Murray great articulation in expressing the humility that God has and wants His children to follow suit.
I quickly want to point out that it took me a while to understand that one is only God’s child when they are forgiven and have received the gift of salvation that Jesus Christ died for us to save us. If one is not born-again in the Spirit from God, then they are not a child of God yet but are still His creation. God saves every day, and every day is an opportunity to be saved as you hear God calling and giving you understanding about Himself and your sin and the dire, desperate, hopeless situation one is in if they are not in the Lord Jesus Christ.
As I was writing this and meanwhile catering to my family, I decided to make a lemon cake, but I tweaked it and added blueberry, cherry and raspberry, it is so easy to make from this little booklet I had; just put all ingredients in and mix and in the oven to bake, and that is my kinda of cake, no messing about - mix it all. I also experimented and made lemon cream cheese frosting, and it’s tasting delicious. As I was describing and writing all these, I just felt gratitude and joy in my heart for how good God is to us, including these things that He has given us, for example, the knowledge and wisdom on how to make delicious food, savoury and sweet tapestry and the taste buds to enjoy the fruit and labour of our hands.
Now, back to humility, there is so much to be said, and further along my blogging, I will be writing more about it. Humility, really, is the growth for any of us in the Lord, which is the opposite of pride. As Murray puts it, “and so pride - the loss of humility - is the root of every sin and evil.”
If one wants to be saved and walk with the Lord and be with the Lord in eternity, then humility is a most important ingredient. The Lord will help us in this growth because the Bible says that He who is the Lord Jesus, who began a good work in us, will complete it…..
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Philippians 1:6
Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant
Matthew 20:26
Thus Jesus “was teaching us the truth that there is nothing so divine as being the servant and helper of all.” Andrew Murray
This little prayer in Murray’s book blesses and encourages me: “Lord Jesus, may our holiness be perfect humility. Let your perfect humility be our holiness. Amen!
It is challenging for us because we humans do not like the word servant and serving others, but actually that “is our true nobility”, as Murray puts it, to serve God and others; we were created for that, which actually gives us the greatest fulfilment and purpose in life, the joy of and in the Lord. As long as we are willing and responding to the Lord, He will help us grow and become more like Him.
Be encouraged, precious readers! God is our treasure! Amen!
